I couldn't agree more. After hurricane Ian devastated our part of SW Florida in 2022, it was all about neighbor helping neighbor with chainsaws, tarps, food, water, etc.
I remember it as a time that did a lot to restore my faith in the basic goodness of people.
That reminds me of something I haven't thought about in decades.
When I was a kid, we had a hurricane pass right over us. Sometime in the late 50s if I remember right. Funny thing is, we lived in Massachusetts, which is generally too far north for a hurricane. So, there's your climate change for you.
Anyway, as far as neighbors helping each other, just one of the neighbors had a generator. Rather than hoard it for himself, each neighbor got to use it for an hour or so. Mainly it kept everybody's refrigerator cool enough until the power came back on.
