For those of us who see our individuality as being more significant than our race and gender, the very idea of equity is a non sequitur. The people I like and respect, and can work with, are of all races and genders. Likewise, the people who I want nothing to do with are also of all races and genders. I simply can't get my head into building my values around race and gender.

I build my values around honesty, integrity and perseverance. Are these Black traits? White? Asian? Hispanic? Straight? Gay? Trans? When we look at the energy that goes into differentiating between all these people, while flat-out ignoring the traits that matter, I have to wonder if a college degree is good for anything anymore.
