I frequently say, “The more sure you are that you’re right, the more likely you are to be wrong.”

Once you are convinced that you and your friends are right, everything you hear after that becomes confirmation bias. Whatever you hear that fits with what you believe is seen as truth. Whatever you hear that contradicts what you believe, is seen as lies. Much of the worst that has happened to mankind was caused by people who were sure they were right.
